Im Admiralspalast (2006 saniert) fand 1946 der Vereinigungsparteitag von Kommunistischer Partei und Sozialdemokratischer Partei in der sowjetischen Besatzungszone statt, auf dem die Sozialistische Einheitspartei Deutschlands gegründet wurde, die später in der DDR die Politik bestimmte.

In 1946, "Admiralspalast", a well-known theatre, was the venue of the joint party conference of the Communist Party and the Social-Democratic Party in the Soviet Occupation Zone in which they joined to form the Socialist Unity Party of Germany which would later control politics in the GDR.
