Limeserlebnispfad, Hochtaunus, Saalburg (Roman border, Saalburg)
From a notice board at this location:
"The Limes Crossing was laid out at the end of the 1st century AD. This boundary served to deter the uncontrolled movements of persons and goods from Germanic lands into Roman territory and vice-versa. Legal entry and departure was only possible at a Limes crossing, such as the one discovered here, where soldiers issued travel permits and collected taxes. The Limes served as a border-line in the Middle Ages and in modern times."
