The chapel is on the scarp above a steep wooded hillside with a view over the river Sauer and to Echternach in Luxembourg. The present chapel built in 1951 is the third on the site. The first was built in 1680, dedicated to Liborius who is prayed to for assistance against gallstones that are caused by the water of limestone areas. Liborius lived in the 4th Century, Bishop of Le Mans in France. In the 9th Century his body was sent to Paderborn. The chapel is on the route of the Jakobusweg from Cologne to Trier.
